The buildings of Philadelphia are a near-infinite blank canvas. Mural Arts Philadelphia, the nation’s largest public art program, was originally started to help eradicate graffiti, instead encouraging artists to inspire and build up the city and its residents.
Their most famous project is Steve Powers’ A Love Letter For You, a collection of 50 rooftop murals from 45th to 63rd Streets. According to Powers, Love Letter is “a letter for one, with meaning for all”. The murals are a universal message to any Philly resident who has ever loved and wanted to express love.
