Recreating Psychoactivity with A$AP Mob

Praise The Lord (Da Shine) was one of the standout tracks off of A$AP Rocky’s third studio album Testing, released this May. In an interview with Genius following the album’s drop, Rocky clued his fans into the writing process he and Skepta had for the track, which involved psychoactive substances. This theme was central to the track, and it clearly shows in the music video that released this June accompanying the track.

Filmmakers Hidji and YGA teamed up for yet another glitchy trip of a music video, evoking the same types of visuals Rocky reminisced about in his interview. Buildings bounce behind carefully masked figures as viewers are thrown between vivid representations of New York City and London.

Only after watching the interview was I able to make sense of the music video, but once I did, it became one of the standout visual works of the summer for me. The video can be watched here.
