I was looking through blog posts on the website booooooom and I saw a dark blue painting of a woman and man in close intimacy that caught my attention. While the people themselves were well drawn, it was the color used that really caught my attention. I was mesmerized by the combination of the intimacy between the two people and the shades of blue that were used.
The painting was made by artist Jen Mann. She uses color in her paintings to help her abstract. In this phase of her life she is painting an abstraction of her partner. We all have an ideal about what our partner should be versus what they actually are. Jen hopes to paint that ideal as an abstraction. As I was reading this blog, I was reminded of our assignment to abstract a sound that we hear. Similar to Jen we were not require to represent the sound through art but to abstract it’s pure essence. Jen does a similar thing where she creates a painting that abstracts the essence of the ideals that she has of her partner.
