I think a Conceptual artists that somewhat translates data into art is Felix Gonzalez-Torres. In this Untitled (portrait of ross work he translates his late partners body weight, 175 pounds, into a pile of candy in a corner. Museum goers can take from the pile but more needs to always be added to keep the life of the pile going.
This is really only one data point being translated into a work of art, but I think the translation of his weight into candy really works.
His work deals with death and loss and love during the aids epidemic
Perfect lovers shows two clocks perfectly in sync. I think his work can be looked to as we think of how to visualize or data sets into physical objects and convey meaning rather than doing so arbitrarily.
