Creativity in the Posthuman Age


In late October of 2018, the world’s first AI-produced artwork was auctioned at Christie’s for the price of 432,500$. This surprised auctioneers as they only expected the work to bring in under 10,000$. The portrait, titled “Edmond de Belamy”, raises numerous questions on the nature and sanctity of art-production, and calls into question what roll man and technology play in the history and continuation of the practice of art.
