This weekend, I attended a performance of The Addams Family by the Penn Singers Light Opera Company. The show itself was fantastic; all the characters were extremely well-casted, the set and lighting were simple but effective, and the costuming was stunning.
On my way to the theater, I was talking with a friend who helped with costuming for the show. I learned for the first time that the writer of The Addams Family, Charles Addams, actually based his cartoon’s characters off of members of his own family. And coincidentally, the building in which we have classes is named the Charles Addams Fine Arts Building. It was definitely very interesting and surprising to learn that such well-known cartoon had pretty close ties to Penn.
