Organic Forms

This sculpture is called Oval Sculpture (no. 2) and this was cast in 1958 by Barbra Hepworth. A theme that seems to stretch through most of her work is this “organic form with an exterior of a curved form and an interior that combines hard edges and the curves of the exterior.

I have yet to understand why they are called organic forms. they seem remarkably perfect, the only really similar structure i can think of are rocks that have been smoothed by the sea.

This is a form I find remarkable tranquil.
